MLP: FiM – Daring Twi

So a question was posed in the IRC as to whether or not Twi would also palette-swap-self-insert in her imagination like Dashie did. No one really came up with an answer, but I figured it would be fun to see how she’d look if she did.

No amount of tone adjusting could get the coat to look like it does in real life. For whatever reason the scanner really, really likes to pick up the brown outline, but not the umber in the middle, so she appears browner with larger highlights than she should. :/

This ran me about 5 hours with Prismacolours.

EDIT: Oops, guess I forgot the book cover actually depicts Daring Do. Oh, well, it was still a fun speculation drawing.

MLP: FiM – Caught Rolling

Well, this ended up looking kind of saucy when that wasn’t my intent. This was inspired in part by actual pony behaviour (as demonstrated by rolling Pinkie in Feeling Pinkie Keen) and pretty much every cat I’ve known. To be more specific, the way cats will just stop dead and stare if someone catches them doing something goofy.

So here’s ever serious Twi, caught mid-roll by somepony.

Spent about 5.5 hours on this with about 90 mins spent sketching (agh, this pose). There’s a few minor-medium mistakes here and there (I really envy the digital undo button sometimes), but overall I’m quite happy with it. Especially the blending, which I think I’m getting the hang of.

MLP: FiM – Ask Equestria Contribution 009 – The Present

Ow, what was that?

See Ask Equestria for the latest shenanigans.

MLP: FiM – Dusky Chilling

Felt like taking another crack at Dusky’s colours with the new blending knowledge I’d picked up since the 2012 NATG.

This is also my second submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 32 theme: draw a blue pony. Sure, she’s not entirely blue, but blue hair’s gotta count for something, right? >.>

Anyway, still not entirely satisfied with how I’m blending, but it’s a lot of fun learning. The pose was pretty much on a whim, so you all get to see her without her mane done up.

Oh and I actually figured out how to get my scanner to do a closer colour correction, so this is a lot closer to how she looks IRL than with my other coloured drawings (yay).

Spent around 5 hours, give or take, on this one.

MLP: FiM – No More Cider

Poor Dashie.

This is my first submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 32 theme: draw a blue pony. Blue pony is feeling blue.

I played with her muzzle a bunch here to see what I’d end up with. And the result is vaguely feline. Hmmm, gogo horse-kitty Dashie? I also had to toy around with her mouth. The Super Cider reference gave her a positioning that wouldn’t look good at all with a 3D pony. I was actually convinced I’ve have to change the expression entirely, but turns out moving it was just enough.

I also detailed her eyes near the very start, so I spent nearly 3.5 hours with her staring into my soul, as though asking “Why, Kuroi, why? Is this what Twilight feels like when you write about her?” >.>

MLP: FiM – Earmuffs!

This was almost totally on a whim. So have a whimsical filly Twi holding some earmuffs.

This took 4 hours with the 2H-HB-2B trio.

MLP: FiM – Double Sparkle

This is my third submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 31 theme: draw a pony in a competition. This one is a little meta, since I like to draw with both my graphite and Prismacolours (even if I end up going with graphite most of the time). There are two Twis here competing for my attention.

The graphite Twi is pretty standard fare, receiving minor experimentation and fixes to my technique.

For the Prismacolour Twi, I restricted myself on just how much black I was allowed to use to force me to try to blend other colours to achieve volume. I think it more or less worked, although the scanner did some weird things with the colours. For instance, I used Indigo Blue to shade the Violet in her mane and bangs and while in real life, the purple stayed decently prominent in most places, when scanned it turned into a light blue. A similar thing happened with her pink streak. Shaded the 929 pink (no name given) with Orchid and in real life, it was almost painfully pink where I didn’t use a lot of Orchid. After scanning, it’s quite magenta.

This took at whopping 6 hours altogether, using the 2H-HB-2B trio on the left and Prismacolours on the right.

MLP: FiM – Last Time On Ponyball Z…

This is my second submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 31 theme: draw a pony in a competition. Twilight and Trixie are both kicking off a magic competition by powering up, Dragonball Z style. Unfortunately for Trixie, she’s probably more than a little outmatched.

Tried playing with more intense light to change things up again. Also took another shot at making Twi’s eye glowy, since I the last time I did it was a while back. And I had no real idea how to do the DBZ powering up auras in monochrome, so I just kind of winged it. >.>

This took about 5 hours overall, using the 2H-HB-2B trio.

MLP: FiM – NATG Day 5 – Almost Home

This is my submission for the NATG 2012 Day 5 theme: draw a pony coming home.

Almost overextended on this one. Had a bit of trouble coming up with a composition until later last night, so I lost out on some possible drawing time (although I still put 5.5 hours into this).

Dusky (mine), Crown Gear (top stallion, gig-mendecil) and Mahogany (frontmost, brokenhero0409) are all heading home to Ponyville after the mock war has ended.

This one was fairly involved: lots of weird angles with mid-motion shots for everyone, since they were all walking, plus something resembling a really simplified background since I was kind of tired of drawing ponies in a vaccuum (although I knew I’d be short on time so… cotton swab vegetation FTW!). Definitely need a break before I do something like this one again.

MLP: FiM – NATG 2012 Day 4 – Dusky Incognito

Gah, I need to stop neglecting my Prismacolors. My blending is still kind of weak and it shows. And the different between this and my graphite is rather noticeable. The thing that most annoys me is I tried to do the blue goggle lens tint and failed miserably.

Anyway, this is my submission for the NATG 2012 Day 4 theme: draw a pony on a rescue mission. Dusky is attempting to infiltrate the camp in order to bring back Phoe. And things were going so well, too. Oh, well, what’s an escape story without a harrowing chase scene?

This ran me a little over four hours.

Bleh, the goggles and toque make her look kind of dorky too. >.>
