MLP: FiM – Pinkie As Pinkie
This is my submission for the Artist Training Grounds‘ week 60 theme: draw a pony being a pony. My original idea was derailed by a NATG picture earlier this week. I’ll probably find a way to do it later, but the ideas would be too similar. So instead I ran with a gamer pony idea. Which started out as a Twi idea, but I’ve drawn her with electronics so much, I wanted to do someone else. And that’s when I remembered Adventure Ponies. So I ran with gamer Pinkie and half invented a new game for the system seen in the commercial by ripping off the adventure genre (Hugo’s House of Horrors being my first idea for looking up a reference picture… although I think the game would operate more like Full Throttle than Hugo’s House).

MLP: FiM – Aug NATG2012 Day 13 – Vigilance
This is my submission for the Aug NATG2012 Day 13 theme – draw a pony in charge or in the lead. A threat has been made against Canterlot. A threat that’s somewhere out there and Captain of the Guard Shining Armor knows it. Too bad it’s always in the last place he’d look…
Anyway, this is one of those drawings that kind of ran away on me. I started out with just Shining leaning against a small section of wall, but it just ballooned from there. First the foreground wall, then the background because the foreground didn’t look right. But then that was just floating off in nowhere land, so I added the tower wall. The spear and clouds were thrown in because at that point I might as well.

This is my submission for the Aug NAT2012 Day 12 theme: draw a pony getting a makeover. Basically pre-wedding Twi and Rarity setting Rarity’s designs in motion. Almost a bit too ambitious for the amount of time I had to do this (so Rarity is unfortunately rushed).

MLP: FiM – Aug NATG2012 Day 11 – Ready to Go!
Apple Bloom is just finishing fixing up Scoots’ scooter and has made a neat little addition. Scoots likes what she sees. Anyway, this is my submission for the Aug NATS2012 Day 11 theme: draw a pony on the mend or fixing something. And this is actually extra NATGy since it’s essentially a do over of this drawing.
Tropers around from early May 2011 onward may recognize the original as my first attempt at ponies (it’s actually 3 really badly edited together drawings for a mock-up that never got finalized). So here it is: comparison of my current skill to my absolute first go at ponies. The difference is rather painful.
Anyway, the story behind how the idea even started is we were discussing where the CMC might end up once they discovered their special talents. Unfortunately for Sweetie, inspiration didn’t pull her into the drawing.
For Scoots I was and still am fairly sure it’s quite plausible for her to end up a stunt performer. Therefore the suit and the goggled helmet (and the rocket scooter). For her cutie mark I went with a whirlwind because honestly, that’s pretty much what she is when she’s on that scooter.
For Apple Bloom I’ve always seen her as a sort of handpony as she demonstrates affinity for working with any manual craft. In the original I gave her a socket wrench for a cutie mark, but I decided a toolbox suited her versatility. I also changed the tool belt design because it never really sat well with me that it looked like a good lean forward would dump everything onto the floor. So I opted for a chest harness instead, which while not able to hold as much, looks much better.
