MLP: FiM – Sly Twi Ink Test

Well, this was pretty much a test to see how I’d end up working if I decided to ink drawing and erase the graphite (it’s been a long time since I’ve done it this way… since before I drew pony). I also got some blending practice in, although the scanner didin’t pick up the light violet very well (only the stuff I blended with the regular violet, really), so she looks a little shinier than she should. I purposefully made the ink lines uneven in most places to see if that could be a stand in since doing furry outlines with the pencil crayons wouldn’t look very good if I was inking. It turned out okay, I guess. Barely better than leaving the graphite as outlines, anyway.

This ran me about 90 mins. Sketched in 2H, inked with a 0.1mm pigment liner (probably need something slightly thicker) and coloured with Prismacolors.

MLP: FiM – That Tank is a Spy

Eh, I was in a strange mood and felt like getting in on the L4D Tank jokes.

Went with cross hatching because I wanted to take a short break from my more intense shading style. Still took me about 2.5 hours since there was quite a bit to do and I’ve never drawn a Tank before. Sketched out with my 2H and hatched with my 2B.

MLP: FiM – Nuzzly Twi and Pinkie

I felt like drawing something cute tonight and settled on nuzzling ponies. I asked the IRC’s owl bot for a pairing and ended up with Twi and Pinkie. So I drew them.

Anyway, this ran me a bit over 3 hours with the 2H-HB-2B trio. There’s a few minor oddball mistakes, but I’m also getting better with the coat length (if only little by little), so I’m fairly happy with it.

MLP: FiM – Twilight “Dr Manehattan” Sparkle

This is my second submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 23 theme: draw a superhero pony. Well, I’ve heard people compare Twilight to Dr Manhattan and it’s superhero theme week, so why not? Plus it let me practice my blending a bit.

This took a little over 3 hours. Sketched it out with my 2H and then added Prismacolor. I’m still not sure about this style of leaving the graphite in, but it certainly looks better than when I attempted no outline Prismacolor. I might have to darken key parts with my 2B or something in the future. That or my black Prismacolor. I could also break out inking pens, but I’m not sure if they would really help.

I’m kind of annoyed that I messed up a couple obvious things, but… I think it still turned out fairly good.

MLP: FiM – Batlestia?

This is my first submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 23 theme: draw a superhero pony. I’ll be honest, I don’t even know where my mind got this from. I guess I was just in a goofy mood.

The spandex and batsuit really mess with the proportions. I drew her normally, but after I added the gear, she definitely looks like she has a more normal pony look. And hair is single tone because it’s supposed to be pink haired Celestia, to time stamp this as something from really long ago.

Done in a little less than 2 hours using my 2H-HB-2B trio.

MLP: FiM – Twilight’s Meme Denial

Twilight doesn’t want to be a wet pony. Seems she’s got a spell up her sleeve now after what Dashie and Fluttershy did.

Took about 3 hours to do this one. Used my 2H-HB-2B trio as usual. Used the same technique as last night, but tried to do shorter strokes, so Twi didn’t end up as shaggy as Shetland Applejack.

MLP: FiM – Applejack’s Flower

This is my third submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 22 theme: draw a pony finding a magic flower. I imagine Applejack either wouldn’t realize it or wouldn’t care all that much and might end up tending to it.

Done in roughly 145 mins using the 2H-HB-2B trio. I continued toying with coat textures and I think I ended up making her one of those shaggier ponies. >.> Also had some fun playing with shadows, but nothing too remarkable came of it.

MLP: FiM – She’s Got That Look In Her Eyes

Wanted to draw Dashie and decided to give her a cat smile on a whim. Which then prompted me to set the rest of her expression to what it is.

Took about 2.5 hours with my 2H-HB-2B trio. No references until touch ups at the end. Also messed with the coat again, making the fur look messier.

MLP: FiM – Obey

Because Fluttershy demands it… you cannot resist the stare.

Anyway, this one’s general practice, with the whole usual working on the coat texture thing. Felt like drawing Fluttershy and thought about doing an angry expression, but then decided to try to do the stare from memory. Ended up needing to pull up a reference picture anyway, though. I also never noticed how much Stareshy looks like an angry straight haired Pinkie. Granted, if I hadn’t cut everything off right below her chin, the rest of the mane would have made it obvious I was drawing Fluttershy.

Done in 2 hours using the 2H-HB-2B trio. And today I used a kneaded eraser for the first time. I can’t believe I ever drew without one.

MLP: FiM – Pinkie Found a Magic Flower and… Oh Dear…

This is my second submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 22 theme: draw a pony finding a magic flower. Original idea was to have her just stick it in her hair and bounce around like a goof, but I kinda felt like doing something weirder. So what if she used it as a baking ingredient? Oh dear…

Anyway, tried something a little new today. Laid out a speed sketch with my 2H, but erased and eyeball copied as I went, so that the Prismacolors don’t have any real outline. The result is actually kind of… surreal I guess? This ran me 90 mins and was pretty fun to do.
