MLP: FiM – Dusky Harvest Festival Piece

This is my submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 22 bonus theme: draw my ponysona and her favourite food onto the provided template so that we can mash them all together and have an awesomely long table full of ponysonas.

This ran me 2.5 hours, which was a little steep, but I’m still not really used to digital, so I guess that’s not too bad. This is almost entirely freehand mouse drawing (some copy & paste included, particularly for the food). I totally winged the food because I’d never really thought about what Dusky’s favourite food might be. I ended up going with a nice little flower and leaf type dealie. I picked a flower at random from Google Images and did a dumbed down version of it. Oh and I thought about having Dusky’s wings spread, but given the way I draw them, they would have ended up off panel and she’s not so rude as to biff a fellow diner in the face with them.

MLP: FiM – Twilight’s Magic Flower

This is my first submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 22 theme: draw a pony finding magic flowers. This is more of an aftermath type of drawing, but it’s still related. Twi finds a rare magical flower. What does she do? Why, press and catalog it, of course!

Done in a bit over 2.5 hours using my 2H-HB-2B trio. Pretty much tried to use the same technique as I used for yesterday’s Rarity, but this time for a whole pony.

MLP: FiM – Rarity is Baffled

Rarity is baffled by something. Possibly your fashion sense.

This is the second of two Rarity commissions I’m doing for my friend. Since there were no other constraints, I chose one of Rarity’s best expressions (from Dragonshy). Had to improvise a bit with the mouth, because it just going off of where the show had it positioned would have looked weird, silly or both in my style.

I tried to pay particular attention to the way the coat might flow down her contours. I think it helped improve the overall look.

Done in 4.5 hours using the 2H-HB-2B trio.

MLP: FiM – Party of One

This is my third submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 21 theme: draw a pony and his/her worst fear. Kind of wanted to try another straight hair Pinkie drawing and this theme ended up facilitating that pretty good.

Took about 2.5 hours using the 2H-HB-2B trio. I’m still messing around a bit with my older style.

MLP: FiM – Twilight’s Super Magic

Finally got around to drawing that badass Twilight I put off a while back. I might not have put enough turn into her rear section in the pose, but I guess it still works.

Experimenting with my old style again (usual 2H-HB-2B trio). I wanted to try doing a better Twi with glowy eyes (I think the only other monochrome glowy eye Twi was my very first NATG entry and I didn’t do any effects for that at all…). I think I succeeded, even if it’s not quite as vivid as I imagined. Also tried having her horn auras cast a heavy amount of light again. Plus I made the other light source in the area really weak to try to make Twi’s glowiness as intimidating as possible.

I tried to do cracks, fissures and those “energy is in the air” line type thingies. The cracks and fissures turned out surprisingly well, but the energy lines are kind of meh.

Anyway, something’s about to get messed up badly and it’s not Twi (for once).

MLP: FiM – True Story

Well, this is the first time in a while I’ve done a comic or had to level adjust something. But I didn’t want to spend too much time on this since I figured most people would just take a quick glance at this for a cheap giggle and/or d’aw (this is mostly for the guys in the IRC, since they insisted I draw this after I told them the story, but I figured I throw it out there). Still took me about 90 mins to get everyone laid out and drawn, though.

Anyway, this is a true story. Yes, I have the Canterlot Twilight plushy pillow. And yes, she does make a good pillow. Anyway, woke up one morning and conditions just happened to be right such that everything in the comic happened, with the exception of the beeping, since my alarm is on the radio, but I can’t remember what was on it at the time; and Twilight trolling me throw an extra-dimensional rip in space time (or maybe she was… maybe she was toying with me to get back at me for all the dark/sad stuff I draw and write about her… O_O; ).

MLP: FiM – Evil’s Twilight Chapter 5: Convictions

Sorry this took so long, but this is a rather long chapter (even longer than Revelations was) that required heavy overall revision.

MLP: FiM – Worst Fear

This is my second submission for the Artist Training Ground’s week 21 theme: draw a pony and his/her worst fear. This is a bit darker than I usually draw these days. Twi and Dashie are a somewhat arbitrary choice. I think any of the main six could be substituted for either position, given how close they are. I spent a little over 2 hours doing this.

Anyway, I decided to give this a shot with my Prismacolors and the more I get used to the soft lead, the more I see the advantages. The shading felt a lot easier to do and graded like a dream.

I’m not sure I got the whole “image reflected in the eye” effect quite down, but it worked out to some degree. Having to draw inside the eye’s space gave me some issues, since it made Dashie pretty small. Conversely, being so close to Twi’s face threw off my sense of scale with how large everything had to be.

MLP: FiM – Twilight Prismacolor Test

Nothing too fancy here today, just a really quick sideways post sketch so I could take my new set of Prismacolors for a test run. I think it turned out all right.

I’m definitely not used to how soft the pencil crayons are, though. I ended up fighting with is more than I thought I would. And considering I picked up a 60 pencil set, figuring out which pencil was where and colour matching for the first time was interesting. I thing I know for sure now is Prismacolor’s Lavender is definitely NOT the colour of Twilight’s coat. XD

MLP: FiM – Twilight Gets an F

This is my first submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 21 theme: draw a pony and his/her greatest fear.

Well, I’m pretty sure everyone saw this one coming. There’s a few minor mistakes, but I’m really happy with the way it turned out. The only semi-big thing I realized after is I probably should have had her ears down.

I tried another slight variation on my shading style. It looks a fair bit better than yesterday’s, but I’m not entirely sure it’s what I’m looking for.

This took me a little over 2 hours and I used the usual 2H-HB-2B trio.
