MLP: FiM – Incidental Costume

This is my first submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 18 theme: draw a pony in their Nightmare Night costume.

Extrapolating from how terrified Fluttershy was of Nightmare Night and the gear she broke out in Dragonshy, this is the conclusion I came to. Basically if Fluttershy had to leave her house on Nightmare Night, she would come out armoured. And… well, it would make a nice incidental costume.

This took about an hour (the pegasi always take me longer, it seems). Done with a 2H and level adjusted. I also tried adding more feathers than usual to the wings to make them fuller.

MLP: FiM – Thou

I don’t know why, but the first time Luna used “Thou” in episode, I thought of that FF6 scene where Cyan and Sabin meet Gau. Anyway, being a big FF6 fan, I just had to draw it, even if the humour felt diminshed a bit as I finished it up.

This actually took me close to 2.5 hours because I haven’t worked with human anatomy in a while and I’d never drawn Gau before that either. Plus new Luna. I clearly didn’t plan properly for her, as seen by her tail disappearing. I forgot that her hair become more Celestia-like and therefore makes her a page hog. I should have sketch these out separately and put them together. Oh, well, lesson learned.

Drawn with a 2H and level adjusted.

MLP: FiM – Rarity and Her Mannequin

This is my third submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 17 theme: draw a pony with her favourite toy. Well, this is stretching it a tiny bit, mannequins are typically not toys. But without her favourite mannequin, Rarity wouldn’t be able to toy around with her dresses.

Anyway, there’s a few mess ups here and there, but I got it to look pretty good. Almost no references on Rarity herself, but the hair still gets me a bit, so I had to look that up. Had to reference the mannequin completely, though, as I’d never drawn it before.

Done in roughly 3 hours using my 2H and 2B.

MLP: FiM – Tardy Nightmare

After seeing Twi in what must be the pony equivalent of the fetal position, stroking her tail, something in my mind just went off on a tangent. Like wondering if maybe the fear was more deeply seeded and what the explanation might be for why she decided to comfort herself by stroking her tail.

Anyway, this sketch was a little more involved than usual and took closer to 80 minutes. Done with 2H and level adjusted.

MLP: FiM – Energetic Fluttershy

This is one of those ones where I just started sketching whatever and the result was good enough I wanted to shade it. So have Fluttershy being happy and energetic about something. This was done mostly without reference and some things are a tiny bit off.

Done in 3.5 hours with the 2H-HB-2B trio.

MLP: FiM – Most Huggable Twilight

Seriously, she just really needs a big hug and a helping hoof.

Anyway, this one took me pretty much an hour. Apparently crazy Twi throws me off enough that I have a tough time drawing her. I didn’t copy the reference exactly, but even though some stuff seems out of alignment, I double checked against the reference and stuff’s pretty much more or less in the right spot. Done with a 2H, level adjusted.

MLP: FiM – Filly Twi Teaches Smartypants

This is my second submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 17 theme: draw a pony with her favourite toy.

Well, I’m pretty sure anyone who knows how much I like Twi saw this one coming. Hopefully the scenario is enough to set this aside from the flood of Twi + Smartypants that’s come in.

Anyway, this was about a 3 hour drawing, using the 2H-HB-2B trio. I was trying to be quite a bit less aggressive with shading here, as it has come to my attention that I may be overdoing it. Hopefully the more intense light source makes the stuff I actually shaded stand out more.

MLP: FiM – Filly Dashie with Her Plush

This is my first submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 17 theme: draw a pony and their favourite toy. I played a pretty obvious one tonight, but, eh, can’t be totally innovative with everything. And besides, filly Dashie is cute, right?

Anyway, 50 minute sketch, drawn with a 2H, level adjusted.

MLP: FiM – Twilight’s Giant Adorkable Smile

50 minute sketch, done with a 2H, level adjusted.

As soon as I saw this in the S2E3, I knew I wanted to draw it. This is quite possibly one of the most awkward poses I have ever drawn, even outside stuff that I’ve mimicked from reference. Not only is she throwing her chest out, but she’s also stretching upward, something I rarely draw. On top of that, I’ve never drawn her face like that. In fact, I don’t know if there’s anywhere else in the show where her face has had that bizarred an angle. Still, the result is undeniably adorkable.

MLP: FiM – Stylish Rainbow Dash

This is my third submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 16 theme: draw a pony from another decade. This time, G4 Dashie has somehow ended up dressed in one of G3 Rainbow Dash’s outfits, specifically the one used in that song about Rainbow Dash always dressing in style. However, everyone has done Dashie hating on that clip, so I thought I’d try a different little twist.

Anyway, 50 minute sketch, drawn with a 2H, level adjusted.

Blah, also just realized I messed up her right eye kind of badly. It’s not supposed to be that wide. -_-
