MLP: FiM – Pinkie Pie Degenned

This is my second submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 16 theme: draw a pony from another decade. I decided to try my hand at an older style. G1, if Google Images is to be believed.

Anyway, my victim for traveling back in time is Pinkie Pie, selected by the IRC’s favourite randomizer owl (whom, for the record, is STILL trying to ship my OC with Dashie XD).

Anyway, surprisingly, this ended up being an easy 30 minute sketch. I actually found the style rather pleasant to work with and something about the way she turned out just feels really natural to me. When I think about it, I really don’t get why people make fun of the older art styles (the writing on the other hand…).

MLP: FiM – Leap of Faith (Fiction)

Tags: Normal, OC
Description: Every pegasus foal must eventually step outside the comfort of her home and take a leap of faith. Dusky Down was no exception and tonight she recounts that moment in her fillyhood.

This is my submission for the Writer Training Grounds’ week 13 theme: write about a pony outside his/her comfort zone.

Rarely do I ever write a story entirely about OCs, but this happened to be one of those themes that sent me in that direction. She tends to not get a whole lot of attention for me, so it was kind of nice to work on her background a bit. Um, aside from that, I wrote in first person, another rarity and the story is unedited again, which seems to be becoming the norm.

MLP: FiM – Twilight Sparkle 2021

This is my first submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 16 theme: draw a pony from a different decade. So I drew Twilight Sparkle in 2021.

“But, Kuroi, she doesn’t look any different from she does now!” one might say.

And to that I say yes, she doesn’t look any different. Same smug Twi, season 12. In other words, still awesome, no shark jumped. This is what I believe our future to be. ^_^

Anyway, optimism aside, this is a 3.5 hour shading job, 2H-HB-2B trio. This was drawn almost entirely without reference, just had to double check her rear right leg, because I couldn’t get it to look quite right. Basically still working on my shading and trying to make her look more 3D over. I’m attempting to be slightly less aggressive so that there’s more white areas for better contrast.

MLP: FiM – The ATG Admin Rescue

This is my submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 15 bonus theme: draw something having to do with rescuing the ATG admins that were kidnapped by ninja and then pirates.

Wow, this monstrousity is finally finished. I’m honestly a little disappointed that 20 hours over 4 days didn’t let me produce something more impressive, but I’m proud of it nonetheless.

All of the ponies and most of the props were mouse drawn (there was some copypasta involved with a couple of the bows).

Some of you may be wondering “what were you doing?” And the answer to that is, I have no idea. I learned a lot of these effects on the fly, so the cave and Twi’s eye glows look kind of bleh. The water turned out surprisingly cool. Um, the shadows were guesstimates and I’m willing to bet a bunch of them are out of place.

In total there are 18 ponies. One of them a hostage, seven of them part of the rescue force and the rest are the allied forces of ninja and pirates. “Gasp!” you say? Well, let’s just say the two sides’ dirty secret is they were never at odds. Instead they staged battles to leave bystanders in awe and while said bystanders were distracted, spies from either team would make off with all their valuables. It was the perfect get rich scheme. Until the ATG admins tried to use the fake feud as a theme. While we were all distracted, the pirates and ninja tried to make off with the admins’ valuables. But finding the admins not as rich as they wanted, the now enraged pirates and ninja kidnapped the admins and have been playing a friendly game of capture the flag, using the admins as the flags.

Anyway, I guess some introductions are in order:
-Tan stallion, top left: Delta’s ponysona
-Charcoal mare, air left: my ponysona, Dusky Down (this pose killed me, I spent two hours on it alone)
-Green mare, air middle: Silver Gale, Trixingno’s champion, sent to aid us
-Brown stallion, air right: Mahogeny, BrokenHero’s champion
-Blue mare, cage: Kits’ ponysona, the other admins are stuffed into the cage with her
-Purple mare, bottom left: well, she probably doesn’t need one, but I thought I’d mention badass Twilight Sparkle because as leader of the assault and the only canon character here, she deserves mention. She’s currently protecting Dusky, Gale and herself all at the same time.
-White mare, bottom-middle-ish: Chromadancer’s ponysona
-Pale yellow stallion, bottom right: TwilightSnarkle’s ponysona… and with a name like that, how could I resist making a Monkey Island joke?

Fun fact: Where applicable, all mooks have different eye colours and/or cutie marks.

MLP: FiM – The Rescue Preview 3

Ugh, still not done. This is turning out to be rather ridiculous. However, between the last little bit of time I have tonight and tomorrow, this should be finished before the deadline.

Anyway, adding to the Chromadancer action from last night, we have Silver Gale “accidentally” dropping a pirate.

MLP: FiM – Evil’s Twilight Chapter 4: Echoes

This chapter made me really frustrated and I was about ready to throw it out the window and start over at one point. Before I decided to go all “Hulk smash!” on it, though, a friend and I did some in depth analysis and I was finally convinced that I did enough right with it to try to salvage it. One moderately major overall later and I think I managed to put together something a bit better than previous chapters. Which is great, because I felt it was quite a bit inferior before I fixed it up.

Warning: Some of the implied concepts can be a little squicky.

MLP: FiM – The Rescue Preview 2

Well, this is proving to be a rather long haul. There’s pretty much no way I’ll finish tonight, but I wanted to show off some of my progress. So here’s Chromadancer really trying hard to clobber that ninja. Yes, a ninja.

MLP: FiM – Preview Sketch of The Rescue

This is a preview sketch of what I’m working on for the ATG bonus theme, which is to draw the ATG admins being rescued from the pirates (and possibly ninja) from last week’s theme. I rounded up my OC, plus 5 other OCs from the ATG to be led into battle by Twilight. I really hope I’m not in over my head because I’m trying to digitally colour all of this. >.>

I kind of stopped trying to detail in the sketch because the ponies are so small on paper. I figure 800% zoom would be much easier to work with, so sorry if it’s hard to tell who’s who (I guess for the one character everyone will for sure recognize: Twi’s in the bottom left).

Anyway, don’t mind the debris that somehow made it onto the scanner (I forgot to clean it, even though I cleaned my sketchbook… dumb fabric!).

MLP: FiM – Celestia’s Forced Hoof

This is my third submission to the Artist Training Grounds’ week 15 theme: draw a pony doing something she doesn’t like. Well, I don’t see how anyone would like sealing her sister on the moon for 1000 years.

This is my 40 minute sketch of the thing everyone has an interpretation of. The higher resolution really brings out the mistakes I make when I work faster like this. The “big crown thingy” (I’m never going to get tired of quoting Twi on that) in particular was annoying to do and that’s even with plenty of practice at the lower resolutions.

MLP: FiM – Cupcake Buddies (Fiction)

Tags: Normal, Randomish, Pinkie Pie, Dashie
Description: Pinkie Pie loses a cupcake and enlists Dashie’s help to make more. The result is unlike anything anypony has seen before.

This is my submission for the Writer Training Grounds’ week 12 theme, which is to use a prompt with opening and ending templates. The template I used is Pineapple’s. To make things interesting or possible completely weird, I used an adjective randomizor for both adjectives.

Opening: “It was a [pleasant] and [unsuccessful] [mourning] in [Ponyville].”

Ending: “I’m going to regret this.”

I basically had nothing for an idea for any of the three prompts until today. And then it kind of clicked. Well, not really, those adjectives were kind of weird to work with. I don’t think the story turned out all that compelling, but it more or less works and keeps to the prompt, so yea. This is another totally unedited work. Also, coming up with a title was kind of hard since a certain other fic has made having cupcakes in the wrong place in a title have bad implications.
