MLP: FiM – When I’m Writing Sometimes I Feel Like I’m Doing This

This is my first submission for the Artist Training Ground’s week 12, day 1 theme: draw Twilight Sparkle.

I know I said I wouldn’t hold back, but doesn’t mean I can’t occassionally still feel bad. Yea, so here’s all my mixed feelings in one drawing. And yes, the weapon had to be a board. Think about it for a second.

I’m totally off today, so I took longer to draw Twilight than usual. I made up for it by being extra sloppy with my humanoid avatar, though, including being positioned really off target.

MLP: FiM – Lounging Happy Twilight

This is my third submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 12, day 1 theme: draw Twilight Sparkle. I wanted to just go back and do a basic happy Twilight, so drew her lounging being just that. This was a 75 minute speed shading job. I stumbled a tiny bit on the sketch, which wasted some time, but eh. The tail is a tiny bit of a mess because I ran out of time during shading, but overall, for how fast I did this, I’m really happy.

Oh and I used the usual 2H-HB-2B trio.

MLP: FiM – Pinkie Accuses Magneto

Well, I’m sure eveyrone’s doing this gag, but I felt I needed to do it anyway. For those not in the loop, Bronyville did a full season Mare-athon on Sep 10 2011. During the season finale, Magneto kept popping up in the corner of the Livestream window for no apparent reason. By the hosts’ sleep deprived logic, Magneto was now responsible for everything that went wrong at the Gala.

Anyway, stupid humans with their stupid hands and fingers. I think I got them looking all right, but who knows. I’ve never seriously shaded a human like this either (at least not with regular pencil… I think I did a couple pencil crayon ones way back in the day), so that took a bit to figure out. Also, Pinkie’s curls are quite ridiculous to figure out. I don’t think I got it quite right, but at least sections look nice. I also managed to mess up her eye a bit and I think the forehead’s off a little, which annoyed me. Then again, it was a bit of a weird pose, so I guess it turned out okay.

MLP: FiM – Fluttershy With Her MLP Doll

Another quick drawing. A special thanks to the Training Grounds IRC for inspiring this idea (and thanks to StephenCawking for coming up with the name Heather). I can’t remember exactly how we got onto the topic, but we ended up joking about Fluttershy playing with a doll for a My Little People show and I decided I must draw it. And seems their brushables don’t come very show accurate either.

Used a 2H to sketch, 2B to shade. I think I slacked a bit on the contrast, though. Still, I’m really happy with how cute this turned out.

MLP: FiM – Argembarger Fights Boss That is Bigger and Eight

This is my third submission to the Artist Training Grounds’ week 11 theme: draw a pony fighting a boss. And tonight I feature Argembarger fighting a giant spider. Because it is a rule that we never let him live Spiderses down.

This started out as something I was going to just make a line drawing, but then I got carried away and started shading. So I turned this into an attempt at speed shading. Drawing overall took about 90 mins (compared to my usual 3-4 hours).

MLP: FiM – Pony Emblem Archer Rarity

This is concept art for the Pony Emblem project.

Damn you and your hair, Rarity! Anyway, I crammed as many gems into this outfit as I thought I could get away with. She’s got 3 for earrings (I borrowed these from her Gala dress), 1 on the front of her cloak clasp, 3 each on the foreleg bracelets (although the rear one faces the gems away from the viewer), 9 on her quiver, which includes 3 in the shape of her cutie mark. Plus 3 more on her bow and at least the arrow she is currently nocking is diamond tipped. Which also makes this one of the most impractical outfits I’ve ever designed. Good luck hiding from anypony to do your sniping, Rarity.

MLP: FiM – Evil’s Twilight Cover

Well, this didn’t quite turn out as good as I wanted and I ended up doing something simpler than I originally envisioned. Still, I’m getting much better at shading, especially with the hair (I’ve noticed I seem to get a little obsessive when working on it). Standard trio of 2H-HB-2B here.

Anyway, this is meant to be the cover picture for my fanfic, Evil’s Twilight. Currently it is incomplete, but this is what I have so far:

Chapter 1: Chills
Chapter 2: Inklings

MLP: FiM – Nightmare Redux (Fiction)

And now for something random.

What can I say? I’m a video game geek and this kind of just popped into my head as I was brainstorming for skills. This is more of a snippet of a sample scene, although I’m not sure how far I could actually take a concept like this without things getting weirder than they are.

MLP: FiM – Ponies in 10 Minutes

This is my submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 11 bonus theme: speed ponies. That is to say, draw a pony in just 10 minutes. Since I regularly speed draw for the comic pages I submit, I decided to put a twist on things and pump out as many ponies as I could within the time limit.

I’m kind of disappointed. I thought for sure I’d at least have started Fluttershy before the timer, but I just barely finished Applejack. I lost a bunch of time to some stumbling and the ponies look kind of rough and out of proportion too. Nevertheless, it was fun. Surprisingly, Pinkie was my fastest draw, although I didn’t detail her in the same way as I did Twi.
