This is my third submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 40 theme: draw an old pony. Well, Discord is old and I hadn’t drawn him yet, so it was pretty much a win all around.
He was definitely fun to work on, especially with a pose like this one. There’s some minor stuff that bugs me, but still quite satisfied with how he turned out.
This ran me about 5 hours with the 2H-HB-2B trio.

Weee, theme wordplay. This is my second submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 40 theme: draw an old pony. So here’s old style Twilight. This is one of those drawings that started out as something quick, but then she looked nice enough that I wanted to do finer detail than cross hatching.
And that was how I ended up spending 4 hours on a G1 MLP. I still don’t really get why people dislike the G1 design (although I did add actual hooves on a whim). I think it looks nice (I especially like G1 Twilight’s mane… inb4 Sweetie Belle). One thing I am relieved they changed was in limiting the amount of objects in a cutie mark. Nine stars arranged like that is a bit of a pain.

This is my first submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 40 theme: draw an old pony. And, well, if being over 1000 years old doesn’t qualify one as old, I don’t know what does.
I decided I needed more practice with the alicorn facial features and this them pretty much dropped the opportunity right in my lap. I wanted to do a close up portrait, as I hadn’t done one of those in a while, so I ended up having to cut out a decent portion of Luna’s mane (her horn also came dangerously close to losing a bit of its top).
There’s some general mistakes, including some features of the FiM standard style that I failed to adapt properly for 3D space, but I’m overall pretty happy with the outcome. In particular, I’m really happy with the way that her snout just kind of worked out.
Anyway, this ran me about 6.5 hours over two days using the 2H-HB-2B trio.
This is my third submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 39 theme: draw a pony as another race/species. Well, I’ve been playing Phantasy Star Zero lately. I was having issues coming up with a third idea when this hit me. So here’s Twilight as a Newman (which is effectively space elves).
This turned out to be tougher than I anticipated. I haven’t done human anatomy in a while, so I already had that working against me. I got the idea fairly late in the day, so this was kind of rushed. I am kind of proud of how I blended Twi’s design with the FOnewearl’s, even if it’s very simplistic. I was hoping to come up with a more Twi design, but I guess this works well enough.

The little scale like lumps were meant to kind of imply the texture over the whole thing, but they didn’t turn out as well as I’d hoped. On the other hoof, the wings turned out way better than I anticipated, so I guess it’s all even?
Anyway, ran me about 4 hours with my Prismacolors.
I’d rather stick with everypony I care about.

Doubling this up as my first submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 39 theme: draw a pony as another race/species. The theme was pretty much perfect for this question as it let me throw together a quick design for an Alicorn Dusky.
Smug Twi totally has your entire master plan figured out (whatever that may be).
Anyway, I just spent 10.5 hours over the last 4 days doing this. There’s a couple minor things that bug me, although they’re mostly little things over-emphasized by the scan. Otherwise I’m quite happy with it. I’m taking this with me to Calgary at the end of April to get Tara Strong to sign, so I pretty much pushed to try to make this my absolute best for my current skill level.
I cracked out the 96 lb Bristol for this Twi and while I forgot just how much harder it is to darken the lines, I also forgot about how easy it is to get good gradual shading. I ended up using my 2H-HB-2B trio here (was almost tempted to pull out the 4B).
38 panels of colour in roughly 2.5 days. Never again. Any future endeavours of this size I’m going to spend about twice as long so I don’t wear myself down again. The first and ninth drawings are doubling up as my second and third submissions for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 38 theme: draw a pony sculpture.
