MLP: FiM – Twilight Crazy Night of Studying

Decided to do another Twilight Sparkle portrait and I more or less took the pose directly from Sonic Rainboom where she’s thanking the girls for helping her clean up after a crazy night of studying.

I wanted this drawing to be an exercise in shading with the darker pencils, so I restricted myself to shading with my 4B and my HB where the 4B wasn’t practical. I still had to use the 2H in a very select amount of places, but overall I managed to stick with the 4B. And the result turned out okay, I guess? I definitely did better on the hair and the eyes really leant themselves themselves to being shaded by the 4B. But other than that, I took a while getting the hang of using the darker pencils and even after I started to ‘get it,’ the drawing still didn’t turn out all that great and I’m not really sure why. I suppose it’s one of those cases where I’m going to have to do a close analysis of other peoples’ pencil work.

MLP: FiM – Evil Overlord LunarApologist

This is my second submission for the DA Artist Training Group’s week 6 theme: draw a pony with a pet.

This is a scene representing a time in the takeover role-play’s timeline that Lunar was viciously overlording over the ATG membership.

I’ll freely admit here that I was trying to do something a little more artsy and had no idea what I was doing. I ended up with… something (at least something is Pinkie’s favourite, right?). I wanted to do more with that creeping darkness, but I was hard time getting anything better looking and my Googlefu was failing me. Doing all the props digitally was kind of interesting. I was going to redo the lines for Lunar’s platform, but the cragginess (is that even a word?) actually fit pretty well.

MLP: FiM – Corrupted LunarApologist

I’m doing another scene for the ATG takeover role-play arc, but the drawing isn’t going to be done tonight (it’s rather large again, although not as massive an undertaking as The Coup was. So tonight is a sneak preview of what’s to come in the form of the sketch I used to lay out the pose for our beloved corrupted overlord, LunarApologist. Nothing seriously out of the ordinary here, just had a tiny bit of trouble getting the hind legs correct. Oh and I had a lot of fun coming up with the hood design.

MLP: FiM – Start of Nightmare Part 10

This is my first submission for the DA Artist Training Group’s week 6 theme: draw a pony with a pet. No clever or snarky interpretations tonight, just Fluttershy and Angel trying not to get bowled over.

This is one of those drawings where like I didn’t quite do as good as I could have, but at the same time, I didn’t anywhere near a bad job either. I dunno, maybe I’m just too tired to think straight. Anyway, I was surprised with how easily I managed to get Dashie’s pose together. I annoyed myself a bit with the really far away ponies again just because it’s hard to detail anything at all. One of these days I’ll learn to stop doing that.

MLP: FiM – Shenanigans (Fiction)

This is my submission for the WTG Week 3 theme: write about a pet stuck in a tree in Everfree Forest.

Well, I’m not particularly satisfied with this story. I had some issues making it flow properly. Not only that, but I took so long creating it that I only got to do one and a half revision passes on it. My Internet is acting up a bit, which makes me nervous, so I’m submitting it while the submitting is still good.

The execution is also kind of blah. I really wanted to tell the story this way because I thought it would be cute and funny, but I just ended up feeling a bit uninspired as I wrote Applejack’s initial portion. Of course, the second part wouldn’t really work without the first, so I guess there’s that.

MLP: FiM – Twilight Pencil Portrait

Well, since I didn’t really get to play around with shading with my last ponysona sketch, I decided to set that as my primary goal this time. As such, I decided to do something simple to save beating up the paper for my shading attempts, rather than trying to get an angle right a dozen times. So I ended up doing a portrait of happy Twilight (because happy Twilight is awesome Twilight, right next to crazy Twilight and smug Twilight).

This is the first time in years that I’ve used a pencil other than a 2H for pencil work and I think it shows. All of the parts where I used my 4B and HB are rather obviously inferior to where I worked with the 2H. Despite that, I’m rather happy with how the drawing turned out overall. As usual, my favourite part is the expression, particularly the eyelashes.

MLP: FiM – Ariel and Rarity

Ariel is my friend Alana’s ponysona.

Some of you may remember the gift she sent me to cheer me up. Well I’ve been presented with an opportunity to return the favour, so this sketch is dedicated to you, Alana. I hope it cheers you up, if only a bit.

As far as the sketch itself goes, I decided to draw her ponysona with one of her favourite from the main six, so here’s Ariel with Rarity. They’re discussing something having to do with fashion. Perhaps Ariel is commissioning a Gala dress or even just a simple accessory. The only things that messed me up a bit were, as usual, Rarity’s curls and Ariel’s tail design.

MLP: FiM – Kuroi Ponysona Sketch

Well, I was at a little bit of a loss for what to draw tonight and decided to maybe do something quick and do a resketch of my ponysona since my skills have improved quite a bit since then. And then I decided to go a bit off model compared to the show. And choose an awkward pose. And then be really picky about it. So yea, that didn’t turn out to be a very short drawing in the end.

Anyway, the pose made the head really easy to do, but everything else more difficult. The legs that were closer to the background gave me quite a bit of trouble since being off by even just a little bit made them look like that were going entirely the wrong way. Then I had to struggle with the wings. The foreground wing wasn’t too bad, only took a few tries, but the background one was incredibly annoying to figure out the angle for. I’m still even sure I’ve got it right (although it seems to be close enough). The tail also posed a bit of issue since the tails don’t translate well to 3D space. I started doing something resembling a shading attempt, although the paper was so beat up from some of the do overs that I didn’t really want to risk experimenting and just left it was the absolutely bare minimum.

MLP: FiM – Sweetie Belle’s Sock Designs

This is my second submission for the ATG week 5 bonus theme: draw a pony in socks. This time I played the theme a bit straighter. Since Sweetie Belle got away unscathed from the poison joke theme, I decided to pick on her tonight.

Sweetie’s at least been somewhat diligent in taking notes. She’s figured out that a good way to try out new designs is to rope poor Twilight into modelling. Although Sweetie’s… “socks” still don’t quite have the same flair as Rarity’s stuff. πŸ˜›

Repost: MLP: FiM – Self-Ponification

This is a repost of some earlier works to get them off the menu and into categories since pages don’t allow categories.

Well, I ran out of groupings, so my pony avatar is all off on her lonesome.
