MLP: FiM – Big Burrowingtosh

This is my third submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 50 theme: draw a pony underground. Because Burrowtosh is totally still partially underground here.

This turned out to be quite the blending challenge for me. Mostly because it was tough to get the discorded colours for his coat to look okay. And then that was even before adding shadowing. Which brings me to my big overall mistake: not using higher lb. paper. A good example of where the layers ended up kind of gross is on his snout. It really ended up not taking the shape I wanted and nothing I did would fix it. :/

MLP: FiM -Reflection

This is my second submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 50 theme: draw a pony underground. So I drew Twi (or rather her reflection) from the season 2 finale.

I chose to do this pretty much because I wanted to try playing around with light and reflection and got more than I bargained for. So many layers of complex lighting and trying to figure out how the surfaces of the crystal work was a bit of a task.

MLP: FiM – Twilight is Armed Take 1 + 2 Side by Side

This is my submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 50 bonus theme: show how far [I’ve] come. Which is to say, do a remake of the earliest NATG picture I did. It’s not exactly the same because quite frankly, I did a lot of things wrong back then. Also, I ran out of time to do all the weapon spam up top.

Anyway, I guess this is one of two fitting days to be submitting (owing to the year being a leap year). On the left, day 1 of my (mostly) pony drawing trek and 4 hours of effort. On the right, day 365 and 2.5 hours of effort. One year of drawing every day. The different speaks for itself.

MLP: FiM – Underground DJ

This is my first submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 50(!) theme: draw a pony underground. Possible two in one theme here: she could be playing underground music, or in one of those underground clubs, or maybe even both.

The turntables didn’t turn out as good I’d have liked, but Vinyl herself ended up pretty good. Since I was working in colour, I took the opportunity to mess around trying to add coloured ambient lighting. I think it worked.

MLP: FiM – Poker Pinkie

This is my third submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 49 theme: design a pony outfit.

This is a quick sketch as a result of a more involved drawing I’ve been working on. Originally I’d planned to have everypony in a sort of casual outfit. Well, after finished the sketch without the outfits, I decided I liked that way it looked as it was, so I decided to cut out the outfits. I had really rough concept sketches down, but my scanner wasn’t picking them up very well (since they were done only with my 2H). I liked how much Pinkie’s simple, whimsical design fit her most (Flutters’ was a close-ish second), so I did a bit of a better version of it.

MLP: FiM – Twilight Solo

This is my second submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 49 theme: design a pony outfit. Thanks to Tara Strong’s role in the Star Wars radio play I decided to ponify Han Solo’s outfit and stick Twilight Sparkle in it.

This is another one of those multi-day projects that I fussed over for 8 hours. In particular, the general framework for the stalking cat like pose I have Twilight in. Her right hind leg was a total pain.

The plan with this one is to take it to BronyCon and actually give it to Tara Strong. :3

MLP: FiM – Dusky Humanized Take 2

Again, you can all blame http://fatum–inanis.deviantart.com/ plus my frustration with the first take for this. It’s still not entirely what I wanted, but the proportions are a lot more balanced (in particular, the torso:leg ratio has been fixed and her overall height is 5 heads instead of 3.8ish), so it’s much closer to what I originally envisioned. I’d say I’m rusty at humans, but looking back at my old sketch book, I was just bad at them to begin with. XD

MLP: FiM – Humanized Dusky Take 1

You can all blame http://fatum–inanis.deviantart.com/ for this. He started doing humanized versions of ponies and it just perpetuated. So here’s a really quick sketch of what humanized!Dusky might look like. In which she looks 12 and gives off Hit Girl vibes. Hmmm, not entirely what I was going for. Therefore, the Take 1 in the title. It’s probably about 80% of what I envisioned, so I’ll have to take another shot down the road.

MLP: FiM – Victory Dash

This is my third submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 48 theme: draw a triumphant pony. And here’s another example of my playing the theme pretty much straight. This is based off of Dashie’s victory pose from S1E2, although with the perspective changed up a bit.

Felt like I’ve been neglecting my graphite lately, so I went with that. I played around with the outlines a bit, trying to soften them up compared to my usual, except keeping as much definition as possible.

MLP: FiM – Another Checklist Complete

This is my second submission for the Artist Training Grounds’ week 48 theme: draw a triumphant pony. And because I can never have enough Twi, I drew her geeking out over checking off that final box on her latest checklist.

I experimented a bit more with the blending on her coat this time, adding in some blue to see if I could define the shadows a bit more.
